We began clearing the land by the bay December 2005. It was quite overwhelming watching whole trees being pulled out of the ground, roots and all.
To get the stumps to burn down, it takes a huge fire.
The site for aikido on willapa bay has now cleared. In early summer of 2006, we built an outside platform for aikido training.
The fall and winter of 2006 saw torrential rains and fierce wind storms, the worst seen down on the coast in 50 years. We were not the only ones who lost many trees. Our beautiful site was in shambles, and there was much logging work to be done. We decided that we should mill some of our own trees, for use in building the dojo and bathhouse. It was quite a project, setting up the portable mill and then like magic creating board feet of timber
